How do I calculate my GPA?

How Grade Point Average is Calculated

The grade point average (GPA) is used to determine a student's scholastic standing.

GPA= total # of grade pts earned/total # of semester hours of credit attempted.

A = 4 points

B = 3 points

C = 2 points

D = 1 point

F = 0 points

Total Hours Attempted for a Letter Grade 16 Calculate GPA by dividing Total Grade Points by the Total Hours Attempted 17.03 Total Grade Points

17.03 divided by 16=1.06 GPA
  • GPA only takes into account classes where credit hours were attempted (a grade of A-F. FN (failure-never attended) and FS (failure-stopped attending) have the same value as a F.
  • Grades of P (pass) and CR (credit) count toward hours earned but are not used to calculate the GPA.
  • A grade assigned by a faculty member will not be removed from the student's record without the approval of the Review Panel and the instructor (see Policy 12.050).
